An Oxfordshire primary school will close for a day next week for the funeral of a former teacher.

Longcot and Fernham Primary School will be shut to staff and pupils on Wednesday (November 22) while Rachel Trollen is laid to rest.

Mrs Trollen taught at the school in Faringdon for more than 15 years before leaving last year when she became unwell.

The school said it would not open as a “mark of respect” and so staff could attend her funeral.

A statement on its website said: “We appreciate that not all of our families knew Mrs Trollen, and that the closure of the school will have an impact on you with work commitments and a day of lost learning for the children.

“However, we, and Richard Evans, CEO, feel that this is the right course of action in these circumstances, and hope that you will support this decision.”
