Greggs will open a new drive-thru in Oxfordshire in the coming weeks.

The popular bakery chain did not give any specific dates for the opening of the new shop on the Brize Meadow estate off Monahan Way in Brize Norton, however, developer Gentian's website says it is "planned for November 20".

And contractors at the site told the Oxford Mail they are due to finish the work on Wednesday.

A Greggs spokesperson said: “Greggs is due to open a new shop in Carterton within the next few weeks.

Six EV charging spaces have also been completed for Instavolt and will be operational in time for the Greggs opening.

Gentian has also created 40 car parking spaces for the proposed new primary school and local centre being built adjacent to the site.

The drive-thru received planning permission in July 2022.

There were 14 objections which included concerns over increased traffic, the sausage roll giant opening a shop opposite a proposed new primary school and traffic risks to 'children and pets'.

Brize Norton Parish Council welcomed new jobs but had concerns about bright-blue signage "which is completely out of context with its surroundings" and asked for planning conditions to be put on opening hours "to reflect its location and to show due respect to its neighbours".

It added it was "extremely concerned about traffic congestion and traffic safety because although the traffic flow within the 'drive through' itself has been carefully calculated, the traffic leaving Brize Meadow at this location from the spine road, exits on to Monahan Way, via an uncontrolled junction.

"Taking into account that this junction will serve approximately one third of the housing development, local school, care home and the remaining hectare of employment land, this proposed 'drive through' will only exacerbate any traffic congestion at this junction, especially those vehicles wanting to turn right."

At the time Gentian said the Brize Meadows Local Centre was approved as part of the wider outline application.

"The principle of development is therefore accepted. The design of the building has been developed to take account of the local vernacular and the site's location within the Cotswolds AONB and have been informed by discussions with the parish council.

"The development will provide up to eight full-time equivalent jobs for local people as well as providing additional jobs within the wider construction and supply chain of the development."
