A traditional village boozer has been named the best pub of the autumn in South Oxfordshire.
The Black Horse in Checkendon received the ‘pub of the season award for autumn 2023’ from the South Oxfordshire branch of the Campaign For Real Ale (CAMRA).
CAMRA presented a framed certificate to the owners of the family-run pub.

The Black Horse is more than 350 years old and has been run by the same family since 1916, according to CAMRA’s website WhatPub.
The organisation described the pub as an “unspoilt gem hidden away up a lane that at first glance appears to lead nowhere.”
It said the establishment is “popular with locals, walkers, horse riders and cyclists” and highlighted the "al-fresco" male toilets as “worth a visit.”
