A new Indian restaurant has opened in the centre of Oxford.

Old Delhi has welcomed its first customers on Park End Street serving up Indian dishes.

The team behind Old Delhi includes Kapil Kahadka, the manager who has 15 years of experience from his previous role at the 4500 Miles from Delhi curry restaurant.

This occupied a large space in Park End Street and was trading until December 31, according to its managers.

The name Old Delhi was suggested by Dr Padmesh Gupta, managing director of Oxford Business College, during a conversation with the restaurant owner.

Dr Gupta said: "The most authentic and flavourful Indian cuisine originates from Old Delhi, the birthplace of beloved dishes such as Daal Makhani and Butter Chicken.”

Chefs at the Old Delhi include Bhajanlal Mander, who has experience at the Taj Group of Hotels, and Bhakti Bhandari.

A restaurant spokesman said: “With a commitment to preserving the culinary heritage of Old Delhi, the restaurant promises a memorable dining experience for all who seek authentic Indian flavours in the heart of Oxford.

"It is set to become a go-to destination for Indian food enthusiasts in the city.”

The opening night was attended by renowned Oxford author Paul Gustafson and Arun Maheshwari, a publisher from Vani Publications in Old Delhi, India.

Mr Gustafson said: "The restaurant has delectable offerings catering to a wide range of tastes, particularly highlighting the exceptional variety of vegetarian options."

The restaurant has already received 40 reviews on TripAdvisor giving it a 4.5 rating.
