November has arrived which means we're fully into the swing of autumn with mere weeks left until Christmas. Summer was just a few days ago, right?
The nights are darker, the air is chillier and the compulsion to sit in front of a log fire with a pint has never been greater.
Where is best? Well, The Times has published a list of all the best pubs in the UK that meet the ultimate autumn pub criteria.
They state: "Once the clocks have gone back and the temperatures have gone down, the only civilised place to while away a weekend is in the pub," quite right indeed!
"Their dimly lit bars, blazing fires and stress-free “woollies and wellies” dress code turn being confined indoors into a guilty pleasure.
Their list compiles 27 of the most endearing pubs to get snug in this autumn, with the full list being able to see here.
The Bull
Charlbury, Oxfordshire
"Charlbury, just outside Chipping Norton, is in the spotlight. Daylesford Organic has just opened the excellent Bell pub with rooms in the town and a stone’s throw and crucial vowel change away is another tempting newcomer.
"The 16th-century Bull’s atmospheric while-away snugs are lit by candles and have wonky flagstones that you can blame should you stumble after a feast such as monkfish with samphire, or muntjac with gooseberries, from the ex-Soho Farmhouse chef Ronnie Bonetti, accompanied by several pints of moreish bitter.
"The ten Scandi-calm bedrooms mix contemporary and antique pieces, and have Neal’s Yard Remedies products in the bathrooms, which are better than paracetamol for dealing with a hangover."
Details B&B doubles from £175; mains from £21
"Pull up a stool, order a pint and chat to the locals. If you’re feeling energetic, indulge in a pre-prandial game of darts before a hearty dinner and a stumble upstairs to bed," They say.
We wholeheartedly agree.
