A nurse from Bicester is petitioning to make a dangerous stretch of road safer after suffering life-altering injuries in a crash just days after helping another crash victim.
In January 2021, while driving home from a shift at a care home in Aylesbury, Grainne Wokes was hit head-on in her Fiesta by a Cherokee jeep which was driving on the wrong side of the A41.
Just days earlier, the 45-year-old was driving down the same stretch of road when a car nearby crashed into a vehicle pulling out of a junction.

The nurse rushed to give those involved first aid while waiting for paramedics to arrive.
Now, more than two-and-a-half years after her crash, Mrs Wokes is still not fully mobile and is lobbying to bring in tighter safety restrictions as data shows there has been close to one death per week on the road since 2014.
Speaking to The Mirror, Mrs Wokes said: “I was driving home and it was dark and pretty miserable.
“Suddenly there was a car coming towards me on my side of the road. I just remember this flash bang and then there’s a big section I just can’t recall.”
Her life-changing injuries included a fractured hip and multiple injuries to her left foot, which left her unable to work for months.
Mrs Wokes described how her foot was trapped during the crash which has required surgery.
She believes she will get arthritis in the future as a result of this incident.
It has been reported that the driver who hit Mrs Wokes was prosecuted for causing injury by careless driving, given points on his licence and fined £400.
