Oxfordshire firefighters have completed a well-known endurance challenge in “storm force conditions” to raise nearly £2,000 for charity.

Just before 4am on Sunday morning (October 29), the team from Bicester Fire Station made their way down the slopes of Snowdon in Wales to finish their three peaks challenge.

The soaring servicemen began their journey in Scotland on Saturday morning.

A spokesperson for Bicester Fire Station said: “After one of the most physically and mentally challenging days of our lives, just before 4am on Sunday, the crew made their way down from a scarily stormy Snowdon to conclude our 3 Peaks Challenge.

Oxford Mail: Bicester firefighters during three peaks challenge

“After a gruelling slog up Ben Nevis early Saturday morning, the views from Scaffel Pikes’s halfway point kept us motivated as we pushed through with seized up bodies and minimal sleep.

“Upon completing England’s tallest peak, and a long drive through the night, we arrived in Wales to take on the Pyg Track of Snowdon in what was essentially storm force conditions.

“We are thrilled to say that we officially stopped the timer on 23 hours, 22 minutes and 34 seconds.

“Thank you so much for all of your donations, we have currently raised a total of £1,786 for The Firefighters Charity, with some last-minute pledges still coming through.

“We are all now safely back at home and looking forward to some food and some sleep.”
