Schoolchildren in Wantage have been working hard to create their best eye-catching artwork to decorate the hoardings of a new care home nearby.

Students from Wantage Primary Academy were recently invited by Care UK’s Charlton Lodge, off Elder Way from the A417, to demonstrate their creative prowess with a piece of artwork around the theme of ‘who do you care about?’

Seven-year-old Audrey, a pupil at Wantage Primary Academy, said: “I was so happy to see my art displayed – I drew a picture of my cat Juniper as all my family love him.”

Charlton Lodge is expected to open its doors in the autumn next year with plans including the provision of full-time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care for up to 72 older people and facilities including a cinema, a hair salon, a café and landscaped gardens.

Justin Daley, development project manager for Care UK, said: “We’re thrilled with the wonderful artwork which is now on display at Charlton Lodge – it looks amazing.

"We were delighted to have collaborated with Wantage Primary Academy on this fantastic project and begin to build relationships with our new neighbours.

"We look forward to working with the pupils on future projects and building intergenerational relationships, which are so important for older people, once residents begin to move in next year.”
