Pupils at Stanford in the Vale CofE Primary School in Faringdon having been glowing on the go this month after a donation of hi-vis vests from an Oxfordshire housebuilder.
David Wilson Homes gave the school 35 hi-vis vests for its pupils to wear when walking to and from school in honour of Walk to School Month in October, allowing them to be seen easily by road users as darker nights draw in.
Clare Webb, teaching and learning leader at the school said: “The children will really benefit from the kind donation of the hi-vis jackets. The children love using our local area as a learning space and the jackets will be incredibly useful especially during the darker months.”
Findings from the Department for Transport following the National Travel Survey identified that 49% of children between the ages of five and 10-years-old walked to school in 2022.
Campbell Gregg, Managing Director at David Wilson Homes Southern, said: “Walk to School Month is a campaign that we will always actively support as the safety of pupils walking to and from school is of utmost importance.
“We have a number of families moving into our River Meadow development, so we hope the donation of hi-vis vests will help the pupils to continue their commute on foot now we have fewer hours of daylight.”
