Five Oxfordshire firefighters will be attempting the three peaks challenge to raise money for charity and the public can follow along on social media.

The team, from Bicester Fire Station, set off on Saturday October 28 to tackle Ben Nevis in Scotland, before making their way to the Lake District to take on Scafell Pike, before heading to Wales to summit Snowdon.

The challenge is to complete all of this within 24 hours, with the firefighters aiming to raise money for The Firefighters Charity.

The mountainous mission will include a total of 15 hours climbing, over 11,000 feet of ascent, and 22 miles covered.

A spokesperson for Bicester Fire Station said: “The challenge is considered ‘extreme’, with only 40 per cent of participants completing it, so wish us luck.

“We will be raising money for the Firefighters Charity, which relies on donations to help and support fire service staff UK-wide, physically, should they be injured or unable to work, mentally, and socially.

“We will be documenting our progress via social media so please follow us as we climb, descend and then travel between Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon, all in under 24 hours.”

Interested parties can take part in the challenge in two ways, as a self-organised group, or a professionally organised event.

Self-organised events can be the cheapest way to take part, while many groups will benefit from the assistance provided by professional mountain guides.
