A pet charity is urging people to forget superstition and give magical black cats Katsu and Poppy a new home in time for Halloween.
The team at Blue Cross in Burford said black cats, which actually appear in the folklore of many more cultures as both good and bad omens, take longer to rehome than other colours and they want to find them loving new homes as soon as possible.
Katsu came into the charity because his owner was too ill to care for him any longer, while Poppy’s owner sadly passed away.
Jade Griffiths, animal welfare assistant, said: “Poppy is a very pretty girl who is on the lookout for a new home to relax in.

"She is a very independent cat, who loves to keep busy and play with her toys before a snooze in the sun.
“When settled in her new home, Poppy would love to be able to explore the outside world. She loves to investigate her environment.
“She hasn’t lived with children before so we’re looking for a new home without children or other pets for her.
“Meanwhile Katsu is an active boy who loves fuss and attention.
"He took a little bit of time to settle into the cattery, but he’s really come out of his shell and shown himself to be outgoing and confident.
“He is looking for a family who will be patient and give him time to settle into his new home and surroundings.”
Black cats can often take more time to find new homes for than other colours of cat.
Jade added: "We think black cats are just beautiful and would urge people to look beyond their perceptions of what an animal looks like. Their fur colour makes no difference to how much affection they have to give.

“We don’t know why some people don’t want to take on a black cat – many people may still associate them with superstition but the only supernatural powers Katsu and Poppy possess are ones of unconditional love and affection.
“If you can bring some magic into their lives they are sure to bring some joy into yours.”
