Oxford Mail Camera Club members proved that we really are a nation of animal lovers with their heartwarming and hilarious pictures on this week's theme of pets.

Snappers sent in hugely entertaining pictures of cute canine capers and mischievous moggies as well as shots of some more unusual animal companions including tortoises and parrots.

But the picture that really made us smile was this one taken by Derek Bird of his dog's funny face as it peers anxiously over a blanket at its lost ball.

Each week Oxford Mail Camera Club members are given a theme and then post their pictures on the club’s Facebook page.

A selection will be featured in the Oxford Mail and online with one picked as our photo of the week.

With Halloween approaching, next week's theme is all things spooky and scary - whether that's a creepy house near you, an eerie graveyard or just your latest electricity bill.
