Three people have been rescued from a car after it got stuck in floodwater on a village road.

Fire crews from Oxfordshire and Wilshire were called this morning (Friday, October 20) after a car was stranded in water on Claypit Lane in Longcot, which is about three miles south of Faringdon. 

A boat was used by firefighters to return the people to dry land.

Claypit Lane and Old Wharf Road remain closed due to flooding in the area.

An Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "Crew from Faringdon and Kidlington Fire Stations, supported by colleagues from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service, rescued three people from flood water in Longcot this morning.

"Firefighters waded into the water to support a member of the public marooned in their car, before specialist crews deployed the boat to return everyone to dry land.

"The Old Wharf Road and Claypit Lane remains closed/impassable at this time. Please consider this when planning your journey.

"Please take care when driving through flood water and consider the limitations of your vehicle."
