A Witney drug dealer may face more serious charges – after it turned out that more than four-fifths of his amphetamine wraps were actually cocaine.

Woe-struck Krzysztof Bembnista, 48, pleaded guilty at the magistrates’ court to possession with intent to supply class B drug amphetamines last month. He also admitted having ‘dirty’ cash.

But on Thursday (October 19), Oxford Crown Court was told that all 233 wraps seized by the police in Witney on September 23 had now been tested.

While initial tests on two wraps found both were amphetamine, full checks revealed that 202 were cocaine – a class A drug – and only 31 were the less serious class B substance.

The maximum sentence for dealing class A drugs like cocaine is life imprisonment, compared to 14 years in jail for class B drugs such as amphetamines.

Recorder Alexander McGregor sent the case back to the magistrates’ court, where it is expected fresh charges may be laid. He will return to the crown court on November 16.

Emma Richards prosecuted the case. Bembnista, of Henry Box Close, Witney, was represented by Catherine Rose.
