A woman kicked out of a Greater Leys flat when police got a closure order was caught inside the property when she returned to collect her belongings.

Claire Gill, 46, was found in the property in Jane Seaman Court on Wednesday (October 18), two days after the magistrates imposed a closure order banning all but the occupier and emergency service personnel from going inside.

Defending, David Pallett told Oxford Magistrates’ Court on Thursday that his client had been staying at the property before the closure order was imposed on October 16.

On Wednesday, she returned to the property to collect her belongings when police community support officers arrived at the door and found her inside.

She was arrested at around 6pm and had spent the next 18 hours in a succession of police station and court cells.

Appearing before the justices wearing a grey tracksuit, Gill, of Woodpecker Green, Greater Leys, pleaded guilty to remaining on premises in breach of a closure order.

Prosecutor Peter Ryman said Gill had 35 convictions for 80 offences.

The magistrates imposed a £100 fine with a £40 victim surcharge. However, the sum was deemed paid by time served in the cells and she was allowed on her way.
