Oxford’s cathedral has unveiled its first new stained glass window in more than 100 years.

The colourful window by artist John Reyntiens shows St Francis of Assisi, surrounded by verdant foliage and frolicking animals. The glass has been installed over the past few weeks at Christ Church cathedral.

The Dean of Christ Church, Prof Sarah Foot, said: “I think what is most exciting about this is having an opportunity for this generation to stamp its mark on the building in a way that will last through time.

“This window reminds us of our responsibilities to care for creation; creation that God made and gave to us to enjoy, but also charged us to look after.”

The new window in the north transept was funded by a donation from barrister Marilyn Kennedy-McGregor and is dedicated to the late Christ Church law tutor Dr Edward Burn.
