This is the moment spree robber Daniel Hone faced-off against staff at the Botley Co-op.

Store assistants had already managed to wrestle a basket of booze out of the 33-year-old’s hands.

And while Hone left the store, he stayed in the doorway. Crystal-clear CCTV footage caught him appearing to fiddle with an object in his hands, which staff feared was a weapon – although he later denied it.

Fearful that he might have a knife or another weapon, the store staff backed off and let Hone help himself to the bottles of spirits from the basket that had been taken off him moments earlier.

The video clip of the repeat offender in the Co-op store was one of a number of pieces of footage played by prosecutor Oliver Weetch when he opened the case against Hone at Oxford Crown Court on Monday.

Hone, of no fixed address, had denied robbing the Co-op and had also pleaded not guilty to a knifepoint mugging in Botley’s West Way and a burglary in Sandford-on-Thames.

But he returned to court after lunch and pleaded guilty to all three counts, with judge Recorder Alexander McGregor remanding him in custody to return to court on Friday for his sentencing.

Thames Valley Police has now released footage of Hone in the store.
