Bookmakers have revealed their odds for a white Christmas in Oxford.

Oxfordshire has seen three white Christmases since 1993, with the white stuff last falling on Christmas Day in 2001.

It might seem a little early to be contemplating the weather at Christmas but bookmakers are thinking ahead and are starting to quote odds for a White Christmas for various major cities.

Matt Humes, of Betfred TV, said: "We will quote odds of 8/1 for a white Christmas in Oxford.

"Most places around your area will be 8/1 with maybe a little bit bigger heading towards the south coast and obviously much shorter the further north you go."

A spokesman for Online Betting Guide (OLBG) said: "It's coming up to that time of year again when the anticipation of a White Christmas fills many romantic festive fans with deep and crisp and even dreams.

Oxford Mail: "Some UK bookmakers are happy to offer betting odds on the occurrence validated officially by the Met Office.

"In 2022, despite very few people seeing snow, the Met office reported Christmas Day snowfall in Scotland, and for 2023, around September is when betting sites begin to dabble with odds for the event with long range weather forecasts becoming available.

"Most bookmakers declare a white Christmas when just a single snowflake falls in the 24 hours of December 25 at one of the 12 major UK airports."

The Met Office reports that snow has fallen somewhere in the UK on Christmas Day 38 times in the last 52 years.

Oxford Mail: Online Betting Guide is quoting odds of 6/1 for Birmingham Airport, 11/1 for London City Airport, 20/1 for Gatwick Airport, 20/1 for Bristol Airport and 20/1 for Newcastle Airport.

In the past, the Met Office building in London was used for betting on a white Christmas but today locations are used across the UK.
