A 17th century Oxford hotel has won a national award at an event held in Birmingham this week. 

The Old Parsonage Hotel was named named Hotel Restaurant of the Year (South) at The Food Awards England 2023 on Monday.

The Food Awards England 2023 celebrates the best of the country's food industry.

The hotel in Banbury Road is owned by Jeremy Mogford and is part of The Oxford Collection, which includes the Old Bank Hotel in High Street, and Gees restaurant.

The awards ceremony, held on Monday, October 9 at The Birmingham Conference and Events Centre, "recognised and rewarded the talent and hard work of the English food industry, highlighting the best restaurants, takeaways, pubs, cafes, and producers".

Oxford Mail: The famous facadeThe winners were selected based on the votes of the public, who nominated their favourite establishments across various categories, including Restaurant of the Year, Gastro Pub of the Year, Fine Dining Restaurant of the Year and Best Street Food amongst others.

The awards aimed to "recognise excellence across various categories, showcase the best food establishment that England has to offer and promote the country's industry, celebrating its diversity and quality".

Last February, a portrait of Inspector Morse author Colin Dexter was added to the collection of paintings at the Old Parsonage Hotel.

Mr Mogford has been vocal in criticising the Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs) scheme rolled out by the county council and believes it has been damaging for business.

His hotel's website reads: "Oxford's 17th century Old Parsonage combines original charm and character with all the luxury, amenities and technology available to an independently owned five-star hotel.
