Detectives welcomed the jailing of a man caught with a handgun on Cowley Road.
Yasin Hamid, 26, was sent to prison for five years on Monday (October 9) after he admitted being in possession of the converted starter pistol.
The firearm was discovered beneath a vehicle on May Day, with CCTV footage showed him arguing with a group of men in Cowley Road earlier that morning.

Welcoming the jail time, DC Jess Fox of Oxford CID said: “I hope Hamid’s robust sentence sends a strong message to offenders in the community that possession of a firearm without the appropriate authority will not be tolerated.
“Anyone who possesses a firearm in public can expect to be quickly dealt with, prosecuted and imprisoned.”
Ms Fox added: “In this instance the firearm wasn’t used and we prevented a member of the local community from being injured.
“The public and the police will not tolerate such reckless behaviour in our communities.”
