A chocolatier in Oxfordshire has been selected as one of the UK’s 100 most impressive small firms.

Rumsey’s Handmade Chocolates made the list for the Small Business Saturday UK campaign, as it kicks off its second decade in the UK.

The chocolatier is an independent family business which has been hand-crafting chocolates for over 20 years.

Started by Nigel Rumsey and now owned by daughter-in-law Kate, Rumsey’s award-winning chocolates are individually made and wrapped in the company’s two shops in Thame and Wendover.

Following a nationwide search, Rumsey’s Handmade Chocolates has been chosen as part of the campaign's SmallBiz100 line-up, which showcases a line-up of 100 of the most inspiring independent businesses from across the nation.

Managing director and owner Kate Rumsey said: “I am so proud that Rumsey’s has been chosen to be a part of the wonderful SmallBiz100 campaign.

“We are a family-run company, and for over 20 years we have been producing award-winning, handcrafted chocolates, passing our delicious recipes down through the generations.

“Over the last few challenging years resilience has been at our core, but our ability to innovate has meant that we are thriving, with our two Parisian-inspired chocolateries a much-loved feature on their local highstreets and a growing national and online brand.

"In a world where so much is made, bought and consumed in haste, we are thrilled to join other like-minded small businesses, pouring love and care into everything we do, and making a real contribution to our local economies.”

Rumsey’s Handmade Chocolates will be profiled by the campaign on October 11 as part of the 100-day countdown to Small Business Saturday UK.

Director of Small Business Saturday UK, Michelle Ovens said: “It’s fantastic to celebrate Rumsey’s Handmade Chocolates as part of this year’s campaign.

“The impressive small businesses featured in this year’s SmallBiz100 sum up the phenomenal contribution that small firms make to our economy and local communities.”

Small Business Saturday is a non-commercial campaign which celebrates small business success and encourages consumers to 'shop local' and to support businesses in their communities.

The campaign was originally founded by American Express in the United States in 2010, and the brand remains the principal supporter of the campaign in the UK.

On Small Business Saturday customers across the UK go out and support all types of small businesses with many taking an active role in promoting the day by hosting events and offering promotions.

Last year the campaign trended at number one in the UK on social media platform X (formally Twitter), with the Prime Minister and the Mayor of London among those publicly supporting the campaign.

Small Business Saturday is set to return on December 2.
