Families will take part in a display of child-friendly cycling across the city to call for safer streets.

Four feeder rides will set off from the John Radcliffe Helipad, Flo's in the Park cafe, Oatlands play park, Botley Road and Summertown Ferry Centre car park and meet in the city centre at Broad Street.

Here badges and chocolates will be available and a bubble bike and a magician will perform magic tricks to entertain young riders.

It is part of a mass family bike ride worldwide organised by Kidical Mass, an organisation set up by a group of parents, which aims to demonstrate the need to create safer streets for children to cycle, walk, scoot and play.

The organisers are calling for more road closures outside schools known as school streets – which they say is a proven way to reduce a child’s exposure to road danger and air pollution - as well as safer cycle routes to get there.

Their recent event in May saw over 100,000 participants worldwide at 500 demonstrations for child-friendly streets.

This year there will be mass bike rides in more than 25 events in towns and cities across England, Scotland and Wales.

They take place just after World Car Free Day on Friday September 22.

Riders are invited to join the ride in Oxford on Sunday 24 September. The four feeder rides will start at 1pm.
