The sale of the Slade Park Barracks site in Headington netted Oxford City Council £8m, it has emerged.
Figures revealed for the first time show the site, which is home to the Territorial Army's 7 Rifles, was sold to developers Berkeley Homes for £11m, of which the council took nearly £8m and the Ministry of Defence the remaining £3m.
Plans have been approved to knock down all the buildings on site to make way for 353 student bedrooms and 72 houses and flats, with the Rifles relocating to Dalton Barracks in Abingdon.
