Former Oxford United Football Club chairman Robert Maxwell's war medals were sold for £6,900 at auction in London yesterday.
Before the sale auctioneers Morton & Eden accurately predicted the medals - including Maxwell's Military Cross - would sell for between £6,000 and £8,000.
They were snapped up by a mystery bidder, believed to be a collector rather than a dealer.
