Final preparations for Oxford's colourful Cowley Road Carnival are being made in readiness for Sunday's event.

Organisers are busy painting signs and creating decorations for Oxfordshire's biggest free public event.

The Cowley Road Carnival is expected to attract up to 35,000 people. This year, the carnival has a masquerade theme.

Event organiser Ian Nolan said: "It's very exciting. We are still getting phone calls every day from people volunteering to help, which is fantastic.

"The vibe around the event is much bigger than in previous years and there is lots of talk and excitement."

He said people were coming from as far afield as Scotland to enjoy the festivities, which are set to start with a dramatic, colourful parade, featuring everything from giant puppets to groups of dancing children, at noon.

The carnival finishes at 6pm, with an after show party at The Regal.
