Oxford has been knocked off top spot in The Guardian’s university league table for the second year in a row.
The University of Oxford was beaten by St Andrews, which solidified its position as the nation’s top uni.
The Fife university beat Oxford to second place in 2019 and topped the table for the first time in 2022.

Cambridge University was ranked third in the 2024 rankings, one place behind the University of Oxford.
Oxford received an overall score of 96.5 out of 100 and was particularly highest placed in terms of student-to-staff ratio and the proportion of students in a career within 15 months.
These scores were a 10.3 ratio and 94 per cent respectively.
Neither Oxford nor Cambridge provided data on the percentages of students who were satisfied with the teaching or feedback on work.
The Guardian publishes its annual university guide each year.
According to the guide printed in the newspaper: “The Guardian rankings will help you figure out which universities give their students the best experience, rather than just showing you which are strongest in academic research, like most other league tables.
“We rank universities through eight different scores, which form a total out of 100. These include what students say about their teaching and feedback in the annual National Student Survey.”
