Another tranche of 20mph limits has been approved by Oxfordshire County Council.
There have been 13 applications for 20mph speed limits approved by the council's cabinet member for highway management Andrew Gant under delegated powers yesterday (September 7).
It means areas including Wantage, Kennington, South Hinksey and Marcham move to the reduced speed limit.
The approved areas are:
- Waterstock
- Wantage
- Kennington
- South Hinksey
- Lower Heyford
- Longcot
- Great Coxwell
- Shellingford
- Marcham
- Spelsbury
- Standlake
- South Newington
- Woolstone.
In Wantage Grove Road and Charlton Road will remain at 30mph following submissions from bus companies.
The Go-Ahead Group bus subsidiaries which includes Oxford Bus Company and Thames Travel said that as sections of the main movement corridors would remain as 30mph limits, they would support the proposals.
The business development and partnerships manager of the Go-Ahead Group said: "It is noted that sections of these roads will remain as 30mph limits.
"This is important for buses to make progress where it is safe for them to do so.
"Slowing journeys makes services less attractive to passengers and serves to encourage negative modal shift from public transport to private motor vehicles.
"Not only is this contrary to the council's policies, but increased motor traffic is detrimental to other active travel modes such as walking and cycling.
"We therefore support the proposed changes to speed limits in Wantage."
