Four kittens were found abandoned in a cardboard box along with a heartbreaking note from the owner to say they were ‘sorry’ to give them up.

A group of eight-week-old kittens who have been named after the characters in the Monsters Inc movie are being cared for by Blue Cross after they were left abandoned in a cardboard box with a note which said: “I’m sorry”.

The four kittens, named Sully, Boo, Randall and Roz by the team at Blue Cross in Burford, had no food or water and would not have survived if they had not been found.

Luckily vet checks have found them all to be healthy and they will need just routine flea and worming treatments as well as microchipping before they are found new homes.

Laura Morris, animal welfare assistant at Blue Cross in Burford, said: “The kittens were so worried and spent most of the time hiding when they first arrived. They would just come out during the day to eat and go to the toilet then hide away again.

“Sadly they were very overwhelmed after their ordeal and we think they may also have been under-socialised in their former home.

“Thankfully they have gone into one of our foster homes where they have started to grow in confidence and have been playing and really started to come out of their shells.

"Once we’re happy with their progress, we can look for new forever homes for them."

She added: “They’re really lucky to have been found as if not they wouldn’t have made it.

"We know times are really tough, but we’d urge anyone who is struggling with a pet to contact us or another charity for help as abandoning a pet can put them at serious risk of harm and even death.”
