A 27-year-old man has been taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Police said he had been stabbed in his upper arm and back. A knife has been recovered.
DS Lisa Jones of Oxford CID said: “At this early stage of the investigation we do not have any descriptions of offenders.
“But I would appeal to anybody who witnessed what happened or who may have dash-cam, CCTV, or mobile phone images, to please get in touch with Thames Valley Police.”
St Aldates remains closed between Pembroke Street and Carfax. The road closure has resulted in extensive disruption, with city centre-bound buses diverted.
