There’s nothing like enjoying an ice cream on a hot summer’s day.

With the August bank holiday weekend finally here, we have rounded up some of the top-rated places to get ice cream in Oxford.

A huge array of flavours is available across the city so make the most of them while summer lasts!

iScream

 

iScream is proudly Oxford’s first gelateria and is certainly one of the best.

The ice cream shop can be found tucked inside the Covered Market and serves award-winning gelato made on-site.

The gelateria was founded nearly a decade ago by gelatiere, Graham who had an epiphany moment while on holiday in Tuscany.

Out of the blue, he announced: “I’m going to open a gelateria one day.”

iScream has a five-star rating on TripAdvisor.

One recent visitor commented: “A lovely little place with great, excellent quality, gelato!

“Service was absolutely great and considerate of the small details (such as which flavour you prefer on the bottom).

“I would definitely come back!”

Alfonso Gelateria

 

Alfonso Gelateria serves high-quality artisan ice cream in Oxford.

The business started as a food struck that opened in May 2018 in Summertown in North Oxford.

The truck at 270 Banbury Road is open every summer from April to September, serving eight flavours of gelato.

Alfonso Gelato now has permanent locations in Witney and Woodstock.

The gelateria has a 5.0 rating on TripAdvisor.

George & Davis café

 

George & Davis, also known as G&Ds, is a locally founded ice cream café.

It can be found at 55 Little Clarendon Street, but there are also two other locations- the George and Danver on St Aldates and the Geroge and Delia on Cowley Road.

All the ice cream is made at the original branch on Little Clarendon Street.

G&Ds has an extensive range of ice creams and sorbets on offer, and you can find the day’s flavours listed on their website.

Swoon Gelato

 

Swoon can be found on the High Street in the city centre.

According to their website: “We believe every life is made a little better by gelato, and bringing people together over gelato is what we do: the very best in artisan gelato, made with love and laughter to lift your spirits.”

Swoon isn’t just found in Oxford, but they also have branches in Bristol, Bath, Selfridges and Cardiff.

One visitor commented: “A little gem - it was a quiet haven in a busy Oxford at 4 pm and the ice cream was the best gelato I have tasted since living in Italy.”

Moo Moos

 

If you like your ice cream blended, Moo Moos in the Covered Market is the place to go.

Although small, Moo Moos has an outstanding selection of things to blend into your milkshake.

These include chocolate bars, cakes, fruit and even cereals.
