A fictional star that appears in The Lord of the Rings could be depicted in the brickwork of the Oxford pub where JRR Tolkien wrote the fantasy novel.
Refurbishment plans for the Eagle and Child, the watering hole that was once a favourite of fantasy writers' group The Inklings, include a brickwork representation of the Star of Fëanor taken straight from the pages of Tolkien’s celebrated book.
The eight-pointed star appears on the Doors of Durin at the entrance to Khazad-dûm, an underground kingdom where Tolkien’s protagonists venture on their quest to destroy the ‘one ring’ and bring peace to Middle Earth.
If Oxford City Council approve the plans, an abstract depiction of both the star and the door would be built in a section of brickwork at the pub in St Giles’.
It comes as part of proposals for a single storey extension to accommodate a new restaurant area.
