Motorists are being warned that due to the British Formula 1 Grand Prix at Silverstone this weekend, the A43 will be closed to through traffic.

The restrictions apply on the road from junction 10 of the M40, at Ardley, to the M1 near Northampton, from Friday until Sunday.

Road users heading for the motor racing event will be directed along one way systems with additional lanes, which will be reversed as traffic leaves the circuit.

The main diversion for non-race traffic will take drivers along the A421, A422 and A508, via Finmere and Buckingham.

Non-race traffic is advised to avoid the area around Silverstone all weekend if possible.

Highways Agency spokesman Bob Gale said the special traffic arrangements were designed to help both race-goers and non-Silverstone traffic by improving safety and reducing congestion.

He added: "The traffic arrangements around the circuit have worked well in previous years and we want to reduce the impact to race-goers, long-distance drivers and local residents as much as we can."
