Banbury's latest Neighbourhood Watch group is warning criminals to keep away.

The group, covering Winter Gardens Way, waas launched to coincide with National Neighbourhood Watch Week.

Mother-of-three Michelle Brain, group leader, said she joined because she wanted her family to live in a safe environment.

She said: "My friend is a member of another group and I thought what a good idea. I'm hoping for a better street and to get to know the neighbours."

Deborah Tonks, regional watch co-ordinator for Cherwell, said: "This is the latest scheme and I think it's rather nice to point out this is a new housing estate and people are building a community.

"It's a really good way of getting to know your neighbours.

"They are creating a safer community, especially with young families.

"Everyone is looking out for each other and the community is sending out a message."

Col Dick Stuckey has retired after 21 years' service as neighbourhood watch coordinator for Adderbury.

He was presented with a certificate of merit by Thames Valley Police.
