Villagers pulled on wellies and waders to tackle flood problems in their village.
More than 100 volunteers from East Hanney spent the weekend wading through the river scooping tonnes of weed from a mile-long stretch of the Letcombe Brook, guided by members of the Environment Agency.
Alan Miles, of East Hanney Parish Council, said: "It was a very successful operation and it really brought the community together.
"We had people from right across the community, from teenagers to senior citizens.
"The result was that the level of the water has dropped by about a foot, which means we will have that much extra capacity - and that has to make a difference.
"There is still more to be done, such as storm drains to be completed by April."
Homes were flooded in the village last July and dozens of homes remain at risk after heavy downpours.
The Hanney's Flood Group organised the event, deciding to take action after it became apparent resources from the Vale of White Horse District Council, Oxfordshire County Council's highways department and the Environment Agency would not be available in the short term.
