Councillors approved the installation of five foot-high security fencing around an office complex in Cowley after break-ins and ‘anti-social behaviour’.

Members of the city council’s planning committee heard on Tuesday (August 16) that the 1.5m-high fencing around Parkway Court on the Oxford Business Park off John Smith Drive would be painted green ‘to blend in with its surroundings’.

In her application on behalf of Pure Offices Ltd, agent Rachael Martin said the hoped-for mesh fencing followed ‘a number of incidents at the site’.

They included ‘forced entry to the buildings and other security incidents and anti-social behaviour’.

Although not one of the ‘incidents’ specified in Pure Offices’ application, in January Oxford burglar Konrad Peotrovskae was jailed for 40 months for a year-long spree that saw him target businesses on John Smith Drive as well as private homes and even a gym.

Councillors voted unanimously to approve the plans on Tuesday night.
