Plans have been submitted for a Pan-Asian restaurant to replace Café Rouge in Henley-on-Thames.

An application has been submitted for new signage for the rebranding of the existing restaurant at 37 Hart Street to Banana Tree.

Banana Tree is a small chain of restaurants serving south-east Asian food for over 30 years after starting from a small café in Maida Vale.

The restaurant handpicks the best dishes from Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam and Malaysia to feature on its menu from soups and salads to wok-tossed noodles, stir-fries and curries.

A planning statement reads: “The restaurant is in need of refurbishment. The proposals, whilst modest individually, would improve the appearance of the building and represent a significant financial investment in the building, helping to ensure it remains in gainful use and thereby securing the socio-economic benefits of this town centre restaurant.”

Banana Tree currently has a restaurant on George Street in Oxford as well as sites in London, Chelmsford, and Milton Keynes.
