A butchers which has been operating for years will be closing its doors amid the cost-of-living crisis.

The owner of The Blue Texel, in Launton, near Bicester, publicly announced the decision to close shop in late July, telling customers the last two years have been particularly difficult.

The public announcement went on to say that rising running costs have made it less attractive to keep the shop open as time has gone on.

It added that the business has also had to deal with road closures on all corners at various times, which has impacted trade.

The owner took the chance to thank all of the butcher’s customers and staff, and said it had been a great pleasure to serve and work with them.

It was stated that the company plans to close at the end of August.

A customer who lives in Launton, Chris Baldwin, said: “For me this demonstrates the impact not only of Covid and the cost-of-living crisis, but also more local issues such as the numerous road closures we’ve had in Launton.

“Blue Texel is a quality butcher with a reputation for excellent meat and other goods – the chicken and chorizo pies being a particular family favourite.

“To lose this butcher will be to lose a main character in the village and inevitably drive us all back to supermarkets for meat.”
