Here we look back at Oxford Mail archive photos from 1968.
Oxford University’s annual Encaenia ceremony was very wet so there were plenty of umbrellas on show.
There was a major blaze at Early’s blanket factory in Witney.
And Oxford United took on Swindon at the Manor Ground.
Derby draws with Swindon Town – watched by almost 18,000 at the Manor and then 16,000 in the reverse fixture – sandwiched a 1-0 defeat at Orient in a hectic four-day period over Easter in the 1967/68 season, when the U's won the old Third Division.
After achieving promotion manager Arthur Turner said: "We have achieved the impossible and this is a marvellous time for Oxford United, it’s players and everyone connected with the club."
