Oxford's Broad Street reverberated to the sound of motorcycle engines today as 10 bikers geared up for a ride across every county in England.
The mammoth ride around all 42 counties has been organised to help Macmillan Cancer Research. Most of the bikers are former members of the RAF. They hope to raise £25,000.
The leader of the group, Steve Freemantle, arranges a ride every year but this year he decided to try something bigger.
He said: "Everyone knows someone who has been touched by cancer, so it's a common thread wherever you go."
One of the group had to drop out at the last minute, because he was diagnosed as possibly having prostate cancer.
Susanna Pressel, the Lord Mayor of Oxford, was waiting to greet the motorcyclists.
She said: "I used to be an enthusiastic motorcyclist myself and any fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Research is admirable."
