Every day (or more often it seems), we are being told by our beardy, tree-hugging, lentil-munching, greeny friends that, because of the motor car, the Ice caps are melting, and that all of the cuddly wuddly polar bears are going to drown because of it.

Compared with this time last year, there are far more cars on the road, yet there is far more ice in the Arctic.

So I have just taken out a second mortgage to fill up the 4x4, and am going for a long drive to do my bit to save the polar bears and their ice.

Perhaps I could offer Green Party spokesman Craig Simmons a lift.

If I happen to be wrong. I am sure the Greenies will be the first to let us know. But don't hold your breath.
