A brand-new boutique hotel, restaurant, bar, and spa could open next month.

The Store in Broad Street has been created inside the former Boswells department store.

It was expected to open in July or August and tourist organisation Experience Oxfordshire have shared pictures and said the hotel is 'coming soon'.

The 101-bedroom hotel is "a labyrinth of beautifully designed spaces and installations, that will awaken a sense of exploration and wonder", said developers.

The bedrooms are inspired by the building’s heritage with plush velvet headboards, comfy king size beds and occasional furniture, generous bathrooms and unique artworks.

Rooms on the upper floors, and those with terraces, give incredible views over the legendary “dreaming spires”.

The 'untraditional' modern British restaurant, Treadwell, will offer local, sustainably sourced produce and the multicultural influences of Oxford, it said.

The ground floor will have a vast statement bar with street views and an adjacent fireside snug.

A bar on the rooftop terrace will have views over Oxford and outdoor seating.

"Cocooned in walnut panelled walls", the Spa on the lower ground floor will offer state-of-the-art facilities alongside treatments from Oskia.

Boswells department store closed early in 2020.

In June 2021 Reef Group completed the purchase of the building as part of a joint venture with La Salle Investment Management and Oxford City Council.

City council leader Susan Brown said: “The sensitive refurbishment of the former Boswells department store to create a quality hotel is key to the ongoing rejuvenation of our city centre.

“Adapting the spaces for multiple uses will help ensure that this iconic building thrives for decades to come, and we look forward to the next stage of this project.”

Eleanor Alexander, a design director leading the project for Reef, said in 2021 she hoped the hotel would be ready to open in the spring or summer of 2023.

One contractor on site in January told the Oxford Mail it was "a complicated job but we're now looking at an opening date in July or August - let's say August to be on the safe side."

He added: "It's going to be a fantastic four-star hotel."
