In a statement released on Thursday afternoon, a spokesman for Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue said: "On arrival, crews were faced with a significant bedroom fire.

"Multiple teams of firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rapidly controlled and extinguished the fire using hose reel jets and an external firefighting jet.

"Crews then utilised specialist fans to clear the smoke and ensure the property was safe.

"Fortunately, an adult female and child resident in the property were alerted to the fire by working smoke alarms and quickly left the property before calling 999."

The incident was attended  by  the whole-time crew currently based at Eynsham Fire Station to help strategically accommodate the closure of the Botley Road, together with crews from Abingdon Fire Station and Kidlington Fire Station.

Incident commander, watch manager Rod Dacombe said: “Thanks to working smoke alarms within the property, the residents were able to exit the property safely and alert the fire service of the situation.

"This allowed our crews to act quickly and extinguish the fire.”
