Footage of a cow walking onto the A34 has been captured on camera.

A motorist travelling along the A34 managed to record the moment a cow wandered onto the major road.

The video shows a cow strolling onto the road and it is believed that this brought the traffic to a sudden halt and led to delays.

On Wednesday, July 5, National Highways reported at around 5.30pm that traffic had stopped on the A34 northbound between the A420 in Botley and the A44 in Yarnton due to a cow walking onto a live lane.

It was reported that police were called, and the incident caused delays of up to 20 minutes.

Inrix, the traffic data company, reported there was more than one cow in the road.

Inrix said: "Severe delays and queueing traffic due to earlier Cows in the road on A34 both ways from A420 (Botley Interchange, Botley) to A44 Woodstock Road (Peartree Interchange, Oxford). Congestion to Abingdon and Islip Turn Off.

"All lanes have been re-opened.

"Police confirm all restrictions have cleared just after 5:40pm leaving delays."

AA maps reported the cow incident was responsible for delays of 26 minutes on A34 northbound and motorists were forced to travel at an average speed of 10mph.

It is not understood how the cow came to be on the major road.
