A GP practice is organising a parkrun 'takeover' to celebrate 75 years of the NHS.

The run, which takes place every Saturday morning through fields behind Wantage Health Centre at Mably Way, usually attracts around 120 runners, joggers and walkers.

But staff at Newbury Street surgery hope to make this weekend's event the biggest yet.

Dr Katie Brice said: "We have managed to get an ambulance to come and start the run with a siren and we have around 30 members of NHS staff who are coming to volunteer and are taking over the roles of marshalling and giving out finish tokens.

Runners and walkers are being encouraged to dress in something blue or even fancy dress.

She added: "We are a forward-thinking practice and frequently use physical activity in our consultations.

"We recognise the huge benefits to mental and physical health for our patients and ourselves.

"As a parkrun practice we are delighted to be involved and looking forward to a great morning with our patients, celebrating the NHS."
