Cherwell district councillor Neil Godwin has resigned.
Mr Godwin was elected to Cherwell District Council in 2002 and was portfolio holder for PR and communications.
The Conservative councillor, who lives in Weston-on-the-Green, also served on several committees, including accounts, audit and risk committee and the licensing committee and service appeals panel.
In a statement, Mr Godwin, who represented the Kirtlington ward, said: "I have served a very fulfilling time with the council and hope I have contributed as much to the council as I have gained in friendships and knowledge."
An election to fill the vacancy is likely to be held within 35 days.
