Astronaut Tim Peake will inspiring young people to get into STEM subjects and careers in engineering, aviation and aerospace at this year’s Royal International Air Tattoo.

Tim Peake, a former Apache pilot, flight instructor and test pilot, who has spent almost 183 days in space, will be in conversation and taking questions on the Inspire Stage on both Friday 14 and Saturday July 15 at the event at RAF Fairford near the Oxfordshire border.

He said: “I am excited to be attending RIAT again this year and what a show they put on - some of the very best in aviation from around the world."

There will also be a Techno Zone, which is roughly the size of 12 tennis courts, housing almost 30 interactive tech exhibits from companies across the engineering and aviation industries.

They include Lockheed Martin with its F-35 replica while Skyfly Axe will be giving people the opportunity to look into the future of flight and discover what it will be like to fly their two-seat personal electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft.

The Royal Air Force Charitable Trust (RAFCT) director Justine Morton said: “We are thrilled with the line-up for this year’s Inspire Stage and Techno Zone and hope to see as many people visit as possible.

“They are both really fun parts of RIAT and I’d encourage parents to bring their children along and see what captures their imagination.

“As a charity we are focussed on inspiring the next generation of STEM leaders, and there is no better place to whet their appetite than RIAT.”
