A man has admitted causing grievous bodily harm to a teen boy.

When Carl Douglas, 42, appeared before Oxford Crown Court on Wednesday afternoon (July 5), he had already pleaded guilty to possession of an imitation firearm, which was used to threaten the youth in Kidlington on January 26.

On the day of his trial, he also pleaded guilty to another charge of causing grievous bodily harm.

The Oxford Mail understands Douglas pointed the pistol at the child then walked off, telling two other youths ‘finish him off’.

The two accomplices, who cannot be identified for legal reasons and whose cases have been sentenced at the youth court, went on to beat-up the victim. The boy was left with fractured bones in his face.

On Wednesday, prosecutor Mike Hollis indicated that the victim had not cooperated with the police investigation or prosecution.

Judge Ian Pringle KC adjourned sentencing for the preparation of a pre-sentence report, but warned the defendant: “You shouldn’t hold out any hope for a suspended sentence. I think that’s highly unlikely.”

Earlier, defence barrister Julian Lynch acknowledged his client had a poor criminal record but said he had not received a prison sentence in a decade.

An alcoholic, he had stopped drinking in order to go under the knife for a kidney operation. He had maintained his sobriety since being remanded into custody at the start of the year.

Douglas, of Belgrove Close, Kidlington, will be sentenced on August 3.
