A 54-year-old cyclist was killed in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday, July 4) in a tragic crash with a suspected careless driver who has been arrested.
The man died of his injuries at the scene after he collided with a silver Vauxhall Astra on the A4074 Oxford Road near Wallingford at 5.54am.
Thames Valley Police arrested a 45-year-old man from Berinsfield on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

He remains in police custody.
Detective Inspector Justin Thomas, of the serious collision investigation unit, said: “Very sadly, a man died as a result of this collision.
“His next of kin have been informed and our thoughts and sympathies are with his family who are being supported at this very difficult time.
“I am appealing to anybody who was driving along the A4074 this morning at around the time of the collision to please get in touch with Thames Valley Police if you witnessed it.

“I would also appeal to anybody who may have dash-cam footage from around the time of the collision to please contact us.”
The road was closed in both directions between the Dorchester turn and at the A415 roundabout in Berinsfield following the crash.
Jamie Hudson, 22, who works on the till at Clovers discount shop in a layby off the roundabout, arrived for his shift to find police cordons and officers on the scene.
“I got here, and it was all cornered off. You couldn’t see that far down but there was one police officer at the top of the road,” he said.
Mr Hudson said accidents were common on the stretch of road from Shillingford to Golden Balls Roundabout.
“It’s quite a dangerous road,” he said. “Every few months there seems to be an accident.”
Police reopened the road by midday and officers had left the scene by 3pm.

The tragic accident comes less than two months after 24-year-old motorcyclist Matthew Marriage was killed on the A4074 between Nuneham Courtenay and Berinsfield when his grey Ducati Monster motorbike collided with a Vauxhall Zafira on May 15.
In 2016, plasterer Wayne Curran from Wallingford died on the weekend of his 37th birthday when his car veered into a ditch on the road near Dorchester.
Earlier that year, Bracknell biker Christian Cloete, 26, died close to where Mr Curran did, after crashing with another motorcyclist.
Tributes to Mr Marriage and Mr Cloete can still be seen on the side of the road.
Police are appealing for witnesses to yesterday’s crash, and anyone with information is urged to call 101 and quote the reference 43230294871.
