A Didcot man faces a jail sentence after he admitted trying to smuggle more than £5,000-worth of MDMA into the country.

Harry Sullivan’s two illicit parcels were intercepted by the Border Force a month apart in early 2021 and addressed to the 22-year-old, the court heard.

On February 15, 2021, they found a parcel containing 250 tablets of the class A drug, weighing 311g and worth around £2,500 on the street.

Less than a month later, on March 3, Border Force officers seized another parcel. This time, it contained 59g of the drug in its powder form and would have been worth up to £2,800, prosecutor Nony Umenyiora said.

Appearing before Oxford Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (July 4), Sullivan, of Bowmont Water, Didcot, pleaded guilty to two counts of being concerned in the fraudulent evasion of a prohibition on the importation of a class A drug. He had no previous convictions.

The matter was sent to the crown court for sentence, with both the prosecution and defence advocates agreeing that it fell into the ‘street dealing’ category on the Sentencing Council’s guidelines.

The starting point for the likely punishment could be as high as four-and-a-half years' imprisonment before credit for his early guilty plea was taken into account.

He was bailed to appear before the crown court on July 27 for sentencing.

Scott Primmer appeared for the defendant, who was in the dock wearing a dark grey suit, white shirt and a striped tie.
