The road where a cyclist was killed in the early hours of this morning is known to be ‘dangerous’ with an accident ‘every few months’, according to a local shopworker.
A 54-year-old man died in a crash with a silver Vauxhall Astra on the A4074 Oxford Road at 5.54am. He died at the scene of his injuries.
A 45-year-old man from Berinsfield was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs.
He remains in police custody.
Jamie Hudson, 22, works on the till at Clovers Discount shop off the A4074 near Berinsfield.
He arrived at work to find police cordons and officers on the scene.
“I got here, and it was all cornered off. You couldn’t see that far down but there was one police officer at the top of the road,” he said.
Mr Hudson said accidents were common on the stretch of road from Shillingford to Golden Balls Roundabout.
“It’s quite a dangerous road,” he said. “Every few months there seems to be an accident."
On the same road on May 15, 24-year-old motorcyclist Matthew Marriage was killed when his grey Ducati Monster motorbike collided with a Vauxhall Zafira between Nuneham Courtenay and Berinsfield in the early evening.
In 2016, plasterer Wayne Curran died on the weekend of his 37th birthday when his car veered into a ditch on the A4074 Oxford Road near Dorchester.
Earlier that year, Bracknell biker Christian Cloete, 26, died close to where Mr Curran did, after crashing with another motorcyclist.
